The All Bay Collective hosts workshop to generate partnerships and brainstorm shared principles for future investment in San Leandro Bay communities
On April 17, the All Bay Collective hosted its Project Working Group 3 workshop at the Lion Creek Crossing Community Center in East Oakland, bringing together representatives from local government agencies, non-profits, and neighborhood organizations around the common goal of creating a resilient San Leandro Bay. During this workshop, participants shared their priorities for the area and identified potential collaborators to help make their near-term projects, policies, and ideas a reality.

ABC organized the workshop around two themes: developing collaborations between people and creating a shared vision of place. At the onset, each participant was asked to share one near-term project or effort of theirs that could benefit from collaboration. Then, during the round-robin session that followed, attendees had the opportunity to talk with each other about potential collaborations and express how they wanted to be involved going forward (e.g., “Be Informed,” “Participate,” “Combine with my project,” “Co-fund”).

The ABC team also introduced a set of draft planning principles for group discussion and further brainstorming. Drawing inspiration from the National Association of Climate Resilience Planners’ Community-Driven Climate Resilience Planning: A Framework report, these principles offered a preliminary framework for ensuring future investments addressed equity, resilience, and other priorities expressed by the surrounding community.

During the “Place” portion of the workshop, participants gathered around wall and table maps – pens in hand – to highlight their ongoing or pending projects and to express their priorities for investment. This was a valuable way for all attendees to see where their interests overlapped, helping to piece together a shared vision for San Leandro Bay and setting the foundation for future collaborations.
